Mosquitoes are a common nuisance in Fiji, South Sea Island, with over 30 different species found throughout the country. Due to the prevalence of mosquitoes in Fiji, the country faces a significant risk of mosquito-borne diseases. Dengue fever is the most common mosquito-borne disease in Fiji, with outbreaks occurring almost annually during the rainy season. Symptoms of dengue fever include high fever, severe headaches, joint and muscle pain, and rash. In severe cases, dengue fever can lead to life-threatening complications such as dengue hemorrhagic fever.

In addition to dengue fever, other mosquito-borne diseases such as Zika virus and chikungunya pose a threat to the population of Fiji. Zika virus is of particular concern for pregnant women, as it can cause birth defects in unborn babies. Chikungunya, on the other hand, is known for causing severe joint pain and swelling. The Ministry of Health in Fiji regularly conducts vector control measures to reduce the mosquito population and prevent outbreaks of these diseases.
